The power- is an easy to learn build that does not require elite specialization. It is characterized by its rather simple gameplay and the additional support options.
The guardian is very easy to learn, but needs a lot of experience and practice to perfect, because your damage depends on many factors. This is among others:
of some skills
Due to the heavy dependency of a good uptime, the is not suitable for many bosses, as you can lose your quite quickly.
In this guide, you’ll find all the important tips to make raiding in Guild Wars 2 with the easier.
We’ll not only cover the basic mechanics of the class, but also advanced class mechanics and rotations to help you understand the at the end of this guide!
What do I have to look out for as to get the best possible damage out of my class?
A good rotation is always a very important factor for good damage, but there are other factors to consider when playing the .
The &B3ACAAA= trait gives you a 20% damage increase if you have a active! This is your most important DMG modifier, but also very difficult to maintain (depending on the boss).
For this reason it is very important as to know the attacks and the behaviour of the respective boss exactly, so that you don’t lose your unnecessarily.
If you lose your due to attacks or similar, use &Bp4jAAA= or &BnwjAAA= to get it back.
Depending on the boss, you may need to decide whether your uptime is good enough without &BnwjAAA= if you don’t have this skill.
If you have more than one or in your squad, you can coordinate and try to maximize the uptime together! This is especially often the case in organized groups!
gives you a massive DMG gain of 10%! You can get this gain through the trait &BzUCAAA= by having only active on you. There are many ways to get a good to very good uptime.
Starting with the &BrojAAA= which gives you retaliation as long as it is active. You will also receive through the &B1wCAAA= trait whenever you activate one of your Virtues. Since this is a permanent feature of your rotation (see the Core build), you have another reliable source.
In addition, the &Bz4CAAA= trait will give you when you activate a healing skill. However, this trait should only be used in an absolute emergency if your uptime is very bad, as you will then lose &BzYCAAA= and its benefits.
Also other classes give you or extend it.
The extends your with &BvwnAAA= very often during a fight.
A will also distribute to its subgroup when it switches to &BoKjAAA= legend. Since this happens very quickly at the beginning of each battle, you will have a very good uptime by combining:
Virtues + + &BvwnAAA=
Of course the -Uptime will also increase by several or with &BrojAAA= in your subgroup.
A simple but nevertheless important trait is &B+EHAAA=. For each active symbol you stand in, you will receive one stack of that buff for each tick of the symbol.
Each stack gives you 2% more damage and is stackable up to 5 stacks. Therefore you should always start your bursts under the effect of 5 stacks. Once you have 5 stacks, you’ll be able to keep them up for the rest of the fight (if you have a good rotation) if theres no boss phase.
If you are unable to attack the boss, or if you are not attacking and waiting, try casting your symbols on the ground to maintain 5 stacks. Because as soon as the boss is attackable again, you want to start with 5 stacks!
This trait also gives you a massive 10% DMG boost for 6 seconds after you activate a virtue.
This is the reason why you keep your &BpsjAAA= and &BqAjAAA= almost permanently on cool down in your rotation.
You want to start and end your bursts always under the influence of this boost! Please note that you will only use &Bp4jAAA= as an additional DPS-Increase if you make sure that you keep your in this phase!
“Stowing your weapon” is a way to pull or stow your weapons at the touch of a button.
However, this is not the only effect of this button: Once you press “Put Weapon away”, 95% of all skills in the game will be interrupted immediately, regardless of whether you have already activated them.
Experienced players can take advantage of this by using the key to interrupt the aftercast on various skills.
The “aftercast” is the time that an animation of the skill lasts (usually a few milliseconds). At this point, the skill is already finished, so it does no more damage.
This way you can bypass the short waiting time of the aftercast and activate the next skill directly. The most important skills with a longer aftercast are &BrojAAA= and &BrsjAAA=.
Both are interrupted with “Stow weapon” immediately after they have been activated. This means, you press e.g. &BrojAAA= and directly after that “Stow weapon” to interrupt the aftercast.
This takes some practice until you get the hang of it, but you will be rewarded with a significant increase in DPS because you can execute your rotation faster than others . On the golem this difference is usually around 1,000 – 1,500 DPS.
As already mentioned in the section “Stow weapon” it is a big DPS-Increase you should use this trick on the skills &BrojAAA= and &BrsjAAA=!
Make sure that you do not cancel your &BpgjAAA= with &BokjAAA=!
Always use &BnkjAAA= in the opponent’s hitbox so that all projectiles hit the opponent!
A very important and also quite useful skill is &BnojAAA=. Apart from great damage when it explodes (if not all stacks have disappeared), it can also block up to three attacks, which an experienced can use for their advantage! But you should be careful not to waste all stacks, otherwise this skill will not explode and do its damage!
A big mistake of many -players is to use &BnojAAA= as first skill when they start a boss battle (like on the golem). This is a big DPS loss because in most cases, &BnojAAA= will explode if you don’t have a full 25 yet! Accordingly it is recommended to delay &BnojAAA= a little bit so that it explodes with 25 !
One of the most important and strongest DMG skills is &BrsjAAA=. Many don’t use it properly in certain situations, which leads to a big DPS loss.
The skill works like this: You turn once in a circle and one (or more) projectiles (swords) will fly towards the boss. The moment you activate this skill, one sword per enemy (max 5) in a 600 radius around you will create a sword that will fly towards these enemies (which you can theoretically use to pull them when you hit them).
However, there is a little trick that will lead to a massive DPS-Increase. If you are in your opponent’s hitbox, there are multiple opponents (max 5) around him and you now use &BrsjAAA=, a maximum of 5 swords will be created, trying to reach the targets. Since you are inside the boss hitbox, all your 5 projectiles hit the boss, which is a very strong DPS boost.
Therefore it is sometimes useful to delay &BrsjAAA= and only use it when enemies are nearby, like (Seeker) or (Caterpillars)
For the there are two main weapon options for the second weapon set, the scepter and the sword. While the sword has a much better burst damage and continuous damage, the scepter is much more beginner friendly and has a slightly easier rotation. If you are more experienced, you can directly play with sword, which is the stronger build!
The sword build has two disadvantages:
You can’t attack a distant target that’s not in your melee range and you’re forced to wait until you can attack it! Therefore, it is highly recommended to play scepter if you need to attack from a distance in an encounter (as in range tactic). If this is not the case, and you can attack the boss most of the time, you should play Sword!
In the sword rotation you start on your sword weapon set, so you won’t get the of your &BrojAAA= directly!
With &BpsjAAA= and &BqAjAAA= you will get some , and in most cases this will be extended by the and the . This means you normally don’t have to worry about !
If you do, you can take the &Bz4CAAA= (DPS loss) trait and press your healing skill at the beginning of the fight!
(Of course the sword set is still better! But the difference is small)
in addition to range attacks during the stack mechanics or during the start of the last phase, you can also immobilize rigom with &BosjAAA= !
here it can sometimes happen that you can’t attack the boss because he’s standing in a black field!
If you need to place one of the 5 pillars, you can continue attacking from a distance.
&Bh0kAAA= is the third utility skill of the in the standard build next to &BtAjAAA= and &BoUjAAA=. This skill increases your damage only slightly and should be replaced first if you need another skill like &BnwjAAA= or &BsEjAAA=.
&BqBUAAA= is by far your best heal-skill you can use as ! You heal yourself based on a percentage of the damage you deal. Since dps is very high, this skill is comparable to an Insta-Full-Heal! It can also be used to avoid ticking damage (such as circle) for a short time!
&Bo4jAAA= can be a very useful heal skill if you need additional blocks, as it blocks all attacks for 2 seconds!
&BsEjAAA= should be used if your uptime is very low! It gives you and , which can be very useful in many cases!
&BnwjAAA= should only be used if your uptime is low and good positioning aswell as &Bp4jAAA= is not enough! But you can also take &BnwjAAA= if you don’t feel safe enough and have a back-up !
&Bg11AAA= serves as additional and source for your subgroup! Since you don’t have an elite that will give you further damage, this is the best alternative!
&Bv12AAA= is an alternative to &Bg11AAA=. If your group has enough and , you can play with this signet, which will also heal your group and increase the &AgEEYQAA uptime!
&BoUjAAA= is the strongest CC skill you have as ! It should only be used in emergency situations or if you play with &B0MCAAA=!
Using the &B0MCAAA= trait, you can distribute the passive effect of a sigil to your allies for 10 seconds after actively using that sigil!
Why do this?
The active effect of &BoUjAAA=, when you activate the sigil, deals 300 damage, which is quite a lot.
Therefore, if your party needs help with the CC, or you are generally fighting a CC heavy boss, such as
take this trait with you!
If you play with &B0MCAAA=, you will lose the &B5MGAAA=, which gives you a lot of precision. It is therefore recommended that you play a different gear set, otherwise you will lose a lot of damage. See overview, Signet-Share-Build.
Try to cast your signet towards the end of a CC bar, so that your party can benefit from the active effect of the signet for as long as possible.
Note: Due to a bug, this Signet -Share does not work as well as it should. Once you activate your sigil, you will lose all (!) sigils (of the same type) that are currently on you. This means that if you have received a stack of a Bane Signet from another guardian, you will immediately lose it again if you press your Signet.
For example: 4 activate their sigil. After each guardian has activated the seal, not every will have 4 stacks as normally assumed, but: 1 1 stack, 2 2 stacks, 3 3 stacks and 4 4 stacks. So the person who activates his signet the earliest will have the most stacks in the end
